Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. Bring the fermented baked milk, butter and eggs to room temperature beforehand, and allow the butter to soften. Choose good-quality dairy products without added vegetable fats. If desired, prepare dried fruit, nuts or chocolate to add to the batter.
Step 2
Crack the eggs into a bowl. Beat with an electric mixer, gradually adding the granulated sugar and vanilla sugar, until the mixture becomes pale and fluffy.
Step 3
Add the softened butter to the egg mixture and beat with the mixer until incorporated.
Step 4
Pour in the fermented baked milk and mix again until smooth.
Step 5
Combine the flour with the baking powder, then sift it into the wet mixture.
Step 6
Mix the batter on low speed until smooth. It should have the consistency of thick sour cream. If it is too thick, add a little more fermented baked milk; if too thin, add a little more flour. If using dried fruit, nuts or chocolate, fold them in at this stage.
Step 7
Prepare a cake pan. A ring or Bundt-style pan works especially well for this buttery batter. If the pan is not silicone, lightly grease it with vegetable oil. Pour in the batter.
Step 8
Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F for 40 minutes to 1 hour. The exact baking time will depend on your oven. Check for doneness with a wooden skewer inserted into the center; it should come out clean. Remove the cake from the oven, leave it to cool and take it out of the pan.
Step 9
Before serving, drizzle the cake with melted chocolate or syrup, or dust it with powdered sugar, if desired.
