Preparation
Step 1
How do you make an easy, tasty sour cream gravy sauce? Prepare the ingredients. Sour cream can be any fat percentage - I used 20%. The higher the fat content, the creamier the finished sauce will taste.
Step 2
Heat a small skillet until hot and sift the flour into it. Lower the heat. Toast the flour in the dry skillet, stirring, until it becomes a light creamy color. Then let the flour cool slightly so it isn’t so hot.
Step 3
Pour a little hot water into the skillet and mix it with the flour. Lumps will form - press and smooth them out with a spatula until they disappear.
Step 4
Add the remaining water and, stirring, bring the sauce to a boil. Simmer over low heat for 2–3 minutes.
Step 5
Now add the sour cream. Stir until smooth. Salt to taste. Depending on how you’ll use the sauce, you can also add spices - ground pepper, paprika, or dried herbs. Slowly bring the sour-cream sauce back to a gentle boil.
Step 6
The flour will thicken the gravy. If you prefer it thinner, add a bit more water. For a smoother texture, strain the sauce through a sieve or blend it with an immersion blender.
Step 7
Use the finished gravy to complement any meat dish, or simply spoon it over any side. Enjoy your meal!
