Donuts with Milk (No Yeast, Fried in a Skillet)

Soft, airy, and incredibly tasty – a dream for any sweet tooth! These donuts are made with milk, without yeast, and fried in plenty of oil in a skillet. The whole process takes about 30 minutes, as there’s no need to wait for the dough to rise. The result is just as fluffy and tempting as traditional donuts.

Preparation
Step 1
You may need more or less flour than specified — adjust based on the dough’s texture. Take the egg out of the fridge in advance to warm up. Melt the butter using any convenient method and let it cool to room temperature. Use refined oil for frying.
Step 2
Sift the flour into a bowl. This will remove any debris and enrich it with oxygen, making the donuts lighter. Start by using about 2/3 of the total flour; add more as needed. Add baking soda and salt (to balance flavor), and mix.
Step 3
In a small bowl, crack the egg, add the sugar, and stir.
Step 4
Pour the egg mixture into the flour. Add the melted butter and warm milk.
Step 5
Begin kneading the dough. If it’s too runny, gradually add more flour. Avoid overdoing it — too much flour will make the dough tough.
Step 6
Once the dough forms a ball, becomes smooth, and stays soft — stop kneading. Let it rest under a towel for 10 minutes.
Step 7
Lightly flour the surface and place the dough on it. Roll it out to about 0.6 inches (1.5 cm) thick. Cut out circles using a glass. Use a smaller cutter (like a piping tip) to cut the center out to form a donut shape. Gather scraps and repeat.
Step 8
Heat frying oil in a deep, thick-bottomed skillet with high sides — the oil should come about halfway up the sides. To test the heat, insert a wooden stick — if bubbles form, it’s ready. Add the donuts.
Step 9
Fry over medium heat until golden, then flip to cook the other side.
Step 10
Transfer donuts to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Add the next batch to the pan. Repeat until all are fried.
Step 11
Before serving, dust the donuts with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
