Preparation
Step 1
How to bake Danish butter cookies? Prepare the ingredients. Take the butter out of the refrigerator ahead of time so it softens at room temperature. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
Step 2
In a bowl, cream together the powdered sugar, vanillin, and butter. I did this with a wooden spoon, but you can use a mixer with a whisk. You can also do it in a stand blender, but watch closely so the butter doesn’t overheat - the blender blades warm up quickly. Vanillin can be replaced with vanilla sugar.
Step 3
You should get a smooth, creamy mixture.
Step 4
Add the egg white to the butter mixture. Rub/beat until smooth.
Step 5
Sift the flour - this aerates it and makes the cookies lighter and softer. Add salt to the flour and mix.
Step 6
Add the flour to the butter mixture in small portions and knead the dough. You may need a little more or less flour than stated - go by the dough consistency.
Step 7
You should get a very soft, buttery dough.
Step 8
There are many ways to shape Danish cookies. I made two batches of dough. From one, I formed a log and cut it into small pieces. I rolled each piece into a small ball and, pressing lightly, shaped it into a small patty.
Step 9
I rolled each piece into a small ball and, pressing lightly, shaped it into a small patty.
Step 10
Using a cookie press, I made patterns.
Step 11
I put the second batch of dough into a piping bag with a star tip.
Step 12
I piped the cookies onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the oven preheated to 180°C (356°F) for about 10-12 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven. The edges of the cookies should turn golden.
Step 13
Cool the baked cookies. Dust with powdered sugar, decorate with melted chocolate or jam. Danish cookies are ready. Enjoy!
