Preparation
Step 1
How do you cook cornmeal porridge with milk? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Choose groats from a reliable producer, clean, without foreign impurities. The milk can be of any fat content. Besides regular dairy milk, you can also use plant-based milk. Use as much sugar and salt as you like.
Step 2
Prepare a pot with a thick bottom, milk porridges should only be cooked in this kind of cookware. Even better if you have a special double-bottomed pot for porridge. Pour the milk into the pot and add the salt.
Step 3
Then add the sugar. If you prefer sweet porridge, or if you are making it for children, you can also add vanilla sugar and cinnamon. Just a pinch of each ingredient.
Step 4
Bring the milk to a boil over low heat. Stir the milk constantly before it boils so that it does not scorch.
Step 5
Rinse the groats well until the water runs clear. If needed, remove any debris and foreign particles. Corn groats come in two types: very fine, which are used to make polenta, and coarser, more textured groats. For this dish you can use either kind. I used the coarser variety. Pour the groats into the boiling milk.
Step 6
Cook over the lowest heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes. Keep in mind that the porridge will thicken a lot. If you like a thinner porridge, add less groats from the start, or during cooking add a little milk or water to the pot.
Step 7
You can add butter to the porridge, or leave it out, it is completely up to you. And of course, milk porridges should be cooked right before serving and eaten hot. Enjoy your meal!
