Preparation
Step 1
How do you make a classic chocolate brownie at home? Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Take a bowl and break the chocolate into small pieces. Add the butter, also cut into pieces. Choose good-quality butter without added vegetable fats.
Step 3
Bring some water to a boil in a saucepan and place the bowl with the chocolate on top. This setup is called a double boiler, and the chocolate will melt from the steam above the boiling water. One important condition: the bottom of the bowl must not touch the water. Also, do not use glassware for this. My bowl cracked during the process, and I had to transfer everything to another one.
Step 4
Stirring constantly, melt the chocolate and butter until smooth. Remove the bowl with the chocolate mixture from the double boiler and let it cool.
Step 5
While the chocolate is cooling, in a separate bowl beat the eggs with the powdered sugar using a mixer until the mixture becomes pale and fluffy.
Step 6
Pour the cooled chocolate into the eggs and mix everything with a spatula.
Step 7
In a separate bowl, sift the flour and cocoa through a sieve. Add a pinch of salt. Salt enhances the chocolate flavor in desserts, so be sure to add it.
Step 8
Add the dry mixture to the egg and chocolate mixture. Using a spatula, stir everything until smooth. You may need a little less or a little more flour, so judge by the consistency of the batter. It should be neither runny nor very thick, something like batter for small cakes.
Step 9
Take a baking pan and line it with parchment paper. To help the paper fit better, crumple it first. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
Step 10
Bake the brownie in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20–30 minutes. In the case of brownies, doneness cannot really be checked with a toothpick, so I recommend using 25 minutes of baking as a guide, adjusting for your oven. If you overbake the brownie, it will turn out dry. Chocolate brownie can be served with cocoa either warm or completely cooled. When serving it warm, add a scoop of ice cream. Enjoy your meal!
