Cinnamon Swirl Yeast Buns
Fantastically delicious buns that even a child can make! Any tea time feels cozier with this homemade pastry. The dough is soft and easy to work with, and the result is so good you’ll want to bake them again and again.

Step 1
Pour warm milk (not hot) into a mixing bowl and add the yeast.

Add 1 tablespoon sugar and stir.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a towel. Leave for 15 minutes until yeast activates.

A foamy layer should appear on top of the milk. The dough is ready to start.
Step 5
Add the remaining sugar and one egg to the milk mixture.
Step 6
Pour in 80 g (about ⅓ cup) melted butter (not hot) and ¼ teaspoon salt. Mix well.
Step 7
Gradually add flour. Amount depends on flour type, egg size, and measuring tools. Mix first with a spoon, then knead by hand.
Step 8
Knead the dough until soft, smooth, and non-sticky. Shape into a ball, place in an oiled bowl, and lightly oil the surface.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a towel.
Step 10
If your home is cool, place the bowl into a larger container with warm (not hot) water to help rising.

Let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1-1.5 hours.

Punch down the dough and place it on a table. Form a large rectangle using hands or a rolling pin.

Spread the remaining 20 g (1½ tbsp) butter over the dough. Mix 1 tbsp cinnamon and 3 tbsp sugar.

Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Roll the dough tightly into a log.

Cut the log into 12 pieces using a sharp knife.

Place the swirls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart. Tuck the spiral ends under each bun.

Lightly flatten each bun with your hand. Cover with a towel and let rise for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

After 15 minutes, brush each bun with beaten egg.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes until golden brown. Adjust time based on your oven.

Transfer hot buns to a towel-lined dish and cover with another towel to keep soft.
