Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. For this recipe, use store-bought puff pastry (non-yeast) in a roll. You can also use ready-made yeast or puff-yeast dough if you prefer.
Step 2
Melt the butter and let it cool to room temperature. Mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until you get a thick but spreadable mixture. Alternatively, soften the butter at room temperature without melting, then mix with sugar and cinnamon. The filling amount may vary depending on dough thickness and taste preference.
Step 3
Defrost the dough in advance. On a floured surface, roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch (5 mm) thick. I used 500 g of rolled dough, but sheet dough will also work.
Step 4
Spread the cinnamon-sugar-butter mixture evenly over the dough, including the edges. If the dough is rolled too thin and the sheet becomes large, you might need a little more filling - simply prepare an extra portion. Avoid applying too thick a layer, as it will make rolling difficult and cause filling to leak.
Step 5
Roll the dough tightly into a log. If it becomes unstable and hard to cut, place it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to firm up. This step is optional.
Step 6
Slice the roll into 8-10 equal pieces.
Step 7
Place the rolls cut side up in a baking dish, leaving some space between them to allow for rising. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. The exact time depends on your oven.
Step 8
While baking, prepare the glaze. Use creamy, plain cream cheese (no additives). You can substitute it with smooth processed cream cheese if desired.
Step 9
In a bowl, combine cream cheese, cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Beat briefly with a mixer until smooth (do not overbeat, or the cheese may curdle).
Step 10
Spread the glaze over the freshly baked buns while they’re still in the pan and let it set slightly.
Step 11
Serve your homemade puff-pastry cinnabons warm or cooled. Enjoy!
