Preparation
Step 1
First, prepare the necessary ingredients from the list. You can cook not only in pots but in any oven-safe baking dish. Optionally, add mushrooms. Use any broth: chicken, meat, or vegetable. If you don’t have broth, use water.
Step 2
Rinse and clean the chicken hearts, cutting them in half lengthwise. Remove any blood clots from the chambers.
Step 3
Peel the potatoes and cut them into wedges or medium-sized cubes.
Step 4
Peel the carrots and cut them into circles or half-circles, depending on the diameter.
Step 5
Peel the onion and cut into half-rings.
Step 6
Heat some of the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat, add the hearts, and fry until the juice becomes clear. Do not overcook, or they’ll become rubbery and tough, as they are dense muscle tissue.
Step 7
Divide the peeled potatoes and fried hearts among the pots. Lightly salt and pepper. You can add your preferred spices.
Step 8
Heat the remaining vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the onions and carrots until soft.
Step 9
Transfer the sautéed vegetables into the pots. Lightly salt and pepper again. Optionally, you can skip sautéing and place everything raw into the pots, baking until done.
Step 10
Pour a bit of chicken broth into each pot – no more than halfway full, since vegetables will release juice. Too much broth will boil over. Add sour cream. You can also mix sour cream with mayonnaise or replace it entirely. Optionally, top with grated cheese.
Step 11
Cover the pots with lids and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (355°F) for about 50 minutes. Exact time may vary depending on your oven and ingredients.
Step 12
Sprinkle the finished dish with fresh herbs and serve directly in the pots. Enjoy your meal!
