Cheese scones

Golden, cheesy scones with a crisp top and soft, fluffy interior - perfect for serving warm with chutney or pickles.

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200C.
Step 2
Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl.
Step 3
Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse, fresh breadcrumbs.

Pour in the milk and stir with a wooden spoon to form a soft dough.
Step 5
Add the crumbled cheese and gently knead the dough with your hands to distribute it evenly.
Step 6
Shape the dough into a rough round and place it on a baking tray lightly dusted with flour.
Step 7
Press down slightly on the top of the dough and brush with a little milk to create a glaze.
Step 8
Grate additional cheese over the top and score a deep cross into the dough to help it break into portions once baked.
Step 9
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, until the cheese topping turns golden-brown and crisp.
Step 10
Serve warm with your favourite chutney or pickle.
