Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. Besides pork, you can use beef, lamb, chicken or turkey, keeping in mind that the cooking time will vary depending on the meat. Add any additional spices you like.
Step 2
Pat the pork dry and cut it into small cubes. Use boneless pork such as ham, shoulder, loin or tenderloin.
Step 3
Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Shred the cabbage, avoiding the tough leaves and core in the center.
Step 4
Peel the potatoes and cut them into medium-sized cubes.
Step 5
Peel the carrot and grate it coarsely.
Step 6
Peel the tomato and cut the flesh into small cubes. You can replace the tomato with ketchup or tomato paste.
Step 7
Peel the onion and cut it into small cubes.
Step 8
Peel the garlic and finely chop it or press it through a garlic press.
Step 9
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 1–2 minutes, until translucent.
Step 10
Add the carrot and cook together with the onion for another 2–3 minutes.
Step 11
Add the pork to the pan and season with paprika, salt and ground black pepper.
Step 12
Mix well, cover and cook for approximately 10 minutes.
Step 13
Add the potatoes and cabbage to the meat. Pour in boiling water.
Step 14
Cover and simmer over low heat for 30–40 minutes, or longer if necessary, until the meat and vegetables are tender.
Step 15
Add the chopped tomato and garlic and mix well. Cover and simmer for another 5–7 minutes.
Step 16
Divide the cabbage stew with pork among plates, sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs and serve hot.
