About 30 min.
Preparation
Step 1
You can replace chicken breast with any meat - just note that the cooking time will increase slightly.
Step 2
Rinse the chicken breast and pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Cut into small, even-sized pieces.
Step 3
Peel the onion, garlic, and carrot. Rinse all vegetables in clean water.
Step 4
Cut the carrot into small sticks, dice the onion, and crush or finely chop the garlic.
Step 5
Dice the tomatoes into small pieces. You may peel them if desired, but I usually leave the skin on.
Step 6
Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or deep pan. Add the chicken pieces to brown. You can also use a cauldron or deep skillet for making bulgur pilaf.
Step 7
After 5-10 minutes of frying, add the carrots, onion, and garlic to the chicken. Sauté together for another 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 8
Add the tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and cook for another 5 minutes. At this stage, you can add your favorite spices or a ready-made pilaf seasoning mix.
Step 9
Pour in about ½ cup (120 ml) of boiling water. Cover with a lid, reduce the heat to medium-low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Step 10
Rinse the bulgur several times until the water runs clear. Spread it evenly over the chicken mixture. You can also place a whole head of garlic in the center (optional).
Step 11
Add enough boiling water to cover the bulgur by about 1-2 inches (2–3 cm).
Step 12
Cover and cook over low heat until the bulgur is tender - about 20-25 minutes.
Step 13
Your delicious bulgur pilaf with chicken is ready to serve!
