Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. Ham works well, but you can also use cooked sausage or bacon. Use sour cream of any fat content.
Step 2
Finely dice the peeled onion.
Step 3
Peel the garlic and finely chop, grate or press it.
Step 4
Cut the peeled potatoes into rounds.
Step 5
In a suitable bowl, combine the potatoes, onion, garlic, ground black pepper and Provençal herbs. Season with salt, add the vegetable oil and mix thoroughly. You can use other herbs and spices to taste.
Step 6
For the topping, cut the ham into small pieces, such as thin strips or cubes.
Step 7
Coarsely grate the cheese.
Step 8
Combine the ham, grated cheese and sour cream and mix well.
Step 9
Transfer the potatoes to a baking dish. Bake in an oven preheated to 355°F for about 30 minutes, until almost tender.
Step 10
Check the potatoes by piercing a slice with a fork. If they are almost tender, remove the dish from the oven. If the potatoes begin to dry out during baking, cover the dish loosely with foil.
Step 11
Spread the prepared ham, cheese and sour cream mixture evenly over the potatoes.
Step 12
Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes, until the topping is set and lightly browned around the edges.
Step 13
Serve the baked potatoes hot.
