Baked Potatoes with Ham and Cheese

Tasty, simple, made from everyday ingredients - perfect for dinner! Baked potatoes with ham and cheese is an uncomplicated, yet very delicious and hearty dish. It’s easy to make, and you get both meat and a side in one. Plus, it saves time and minimizes dirty dishes.

Preparation
Step 1
Choose medium-sized potatoes. You can use either regular cooked ham or smoked ham - the latter will give a more intense flavor. Wash and dry the vegetables beforehand.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it into quarter rings. To avoid eye irritation while cutting, rinse the onion and knife with cold water. To prevent the cutting board from absorbing the onion smell, rub it with a piece of lemon beforehand.
Step 3
Sauté the chopped onion in 1 tablespoon of neutral vegetable oil until golden.
Step 4
Cut the potatoes into medium-sized sticks.
Step 5
Dice the ham - or cut it into sticks, whichever you prefer.
Step 6
Take a suitable baking dish. I used a ceramic one measuring 9x5.5x2.3 inches (23×14×6 cm). Pour the remaining vegetable oil into the dish and coat the bottom and sides. Add the potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and mix. You can also add your favorite spices.
Step 7
Spread the sautéed onion over the potatoes. Then layer the ham cubes on top.
Step 8
Cover the dish with foil and fold the edges. Place it in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C). Bake for 40-50 minutes, depending on your oven and the amount of ingredients.
Step 9
While the dish is baking, grate the cheese on a coarse grater. You can use any cheese - hard, semi-hard, or soft (like mozzarella). Just make sure it’s tasty, high-quality, and melts well.
Step 10
After baking, remove the dish from the oven but do not turn the heat off. Take off the foil and sprinkle the top with cheese. You can add more cheese if desired.
Step 11
Return the dish to the oven for another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese melts. Remove when done.

Serve the baked potatoes with ham and cheese hot, with fresh vegetables and herbs. Enjoy your meal!
