Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. You can use a whole pink salmon, fillets or steaks. Other salmon or trout can also be used. Mayonnaise can be substituted for the sour cream.
Step 2
If using a whole fish, cut it into serving-sized pieces; the skin can be left on. Pat the fish well with paper towels, then season both sides with salt and ground black pepper. Add your favorite fish seasonings if desired. Arrange the pieces in a baking dish and drizzle with lemon juice.
Step 3
Spread a small amount of sour cream or mayonnaise over each piece of fish.
Step 4
Grate the cheese. Use any hard, semi-hard or soft cheese that melts well, such as mozzarella.
Step 5
Generously sprinkle the grated cheese over the fish.
Step 6
Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F for approximately 30–40 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish pieces and your oven. Avoid overbaking so the fish stays tender.
Step 7
Serve the baked pink salmon hot with vegetables or your favorite side dish.
