Preparation
Step 1
You can use any kind of fish fillet. I used trout fillet, pre-cleaned from skin and bones. Add spices and herbs according to your taste.
Step 2
Rinse the fish fillet and pat it dry thoroughly. Cut into serving pieces. Salt on both sides, sprinkle with herbs, and drizzle with lemon juice. Cover and let it marinate at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. If you’re using lean fish like pink salmon or pollock, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Step 3
Peel and wash the onion, then slice it into thin rings.
Step 4
Wash the tomatoes and slice them into medium-thick rounds. Choose ripe but firm tomatoes so they keep their shape during baking.
Step 5
Grate the cheese on a fine or coarse grater. You can use any kind - hard, semi-hard, or processed - just make sure it melts well and tastes good.
Step 6
Grease a baking dish lightly with vegetable oil. Ceramic, glass, or metal will all work. Lay the fish pieces in the dish.
Step 7
Spread sour cream evenly over the fish.
Step 8
Arrange onion rings on top of the sour cream.
Step 9
Place tomato slices on top of the onions.
Step 10
Sprinkle grated cheese over the tomatoes.
Step 11
Bake the fish fillet in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes. To keep it juicy, cover the dish with foil. Remove the foil 10-15 minutes before the end for a golden crust. Adjust time and temperature based on your oven.
Step 12
Serve the baked trout fillet with any side dish. Enjoy your meal!
