Baked Egg with Cheese

Simple, accessible, and hearty breakfast for the whole family! Baked Egg with Cheese adds variety when plain fried eggs get boring. Baked on bread with grated cheese, it’s delicious and satisfying.

Preparation
Step 1
Use large, selected eggs. For a tasty and visually appealing dish, use farm eggs with bright yellow yolks. Always use fresh eggs. Vegetable oil can be replaced with butter. Bread can be wheat or rye; I used wheat toast bread.
Step 2
Remove mozzarella from brine, shake off excess moisture, and grate coarsely. You can substitute with any other cheese, such as feta, brined cheese, soft cream cheese, or processed cheese.
Step 3
Grease a small square or rectangular baking dish with vegetable oil. Place bread at the bottom, trimming edges if necessary to fit completely. I used a 20 × 15 cm dish.
Step 4
Sprinkle half of the grated cheese over the bread.
Step 5
Carefully crack 4 eggs on top of the cheese, keeping yolks intact.
Step 6
Season eggs with salt and pepper. Optionally, add your preferred spices.
Step 7
Sprinkle remaining grated cheese on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 15-20 minutes. Cooking time depends on your oven. Cheese should melt, and eggs should cook through.
Step 8
Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs. Enjoy!
