If you’re using pre-made spice mixes, make sure to read the label. They often contain salt, so consider this to avoid oversalting your dish.
Preparation
Step 1
I used turkey breast fillet, but thigh fillet works too. Choose neutral-flavored vegetable oil. Use spices and seasonings to your taste.
Step 2
Peel and rinse the onion. Cut it into small cubes or half-rings.
Step 3
Peel the carrot and slice it into thin rounds.
Step 4
Shred the cabbage into thin strips, removing any thick or tough parts from the leaves.
Step 5
Wash and pat the turkey fillet dry. Cut it into small pieces.
Step 6
In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil and add the turkey pieces. Fry on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until golden on all sides. The crust locks in the juices.
Step 7
In another pan, sauté the onion and carrot in oil, stirring frequently.
Step 8
When the vegetables begin to soften, add the cabbage. Stir and cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes so it absorbs the flavors and oil.
Step 9
Season the cabbage with salt, add tomato paste and herbs or any preferred spices. Mix well.
Step 10
Lightly grease a baking dish (ceramic or heatproof glass works well). Spread the cabbage mixture evenly. Add a bay leaf.
Step 11
Place the seared turkey pieces on top.
Step 12
Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 45-50 minutes. Cooking time depends on how soft the cabbage is. Young cabbage cooks faster.
Step 13
After 35 minutes, carefully lift the foil from one side to check cabbage tenderness. If it’s still firm, continue baking until done. Adjust time based on your oven.
Step 14
Mix the finished cabbage with the turkey, cover again with foil, and let it rest for 10 minutes. Then serve. Enjoy!
