Preparation
Step 1
Choose juicy, not too firm or meaty tomatoes. This time, I used 5-6 cocktail tomatoes. They are larger than cherry tomatoes but smaller than regular ones. Their rich, slightly sweet taste makes the salad very delicious.
Step 2
Rinse the tomatoes under cold running water. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess water. Cut each tomato in half and remove the stem attachment.
Step 3
Slice the tomatoes into medium wedges. If you prefer, you can cut them into thin slices. Place them in a deep bowl.
Step 4
Peel the onion and rinse it. Dry with a kitchen towel or napkin. To make the salad more colorful, I used half of a red onion and half of a regular white onion. Slice the onion into thin half-rings and add to the tomatoes.
Step 5
Rinse the basil, dry it, and chop finely. You can also use parsley, cilantro, or green onion tops. Add the herbs to the bowl.
Step 6
Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Mix well. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes, mix again, and serve immediately.
Step 7
This salad is especially delicious when served with meat dishes.
