5-ingredient chocolate chip cookies

These classic homemade cookies are soft in the centre and golden at the edges, perfect for a sweet snack or teatime treat.

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 170C and line two baking trays with baking paper.
Step 2
In a stand mixer set to medium speed, cream together the butter and sugar for around 3 minutes until the mixture is light and pale.
Step 3
Add the egg and continue mixing for another minute. Incorporate the flour using a rubber spatula until just combined, then beat the mixture thoroughly. Stir in the chocolate pieces.
Step 4
For best results, cover the dough and chill it in the fridge for 1 hour before baking, if time allows.
Step 5
Shape the dough into walnut-sized balls and space them well apart on the prepared trays to allow for spreading.
Step 6
Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 12 minutes, or until the cookies are golden around the edges and slightly firm to the touch. Let them cool on the baking trays, where they will continue to firm up as they cool.
