Tandoor Bread – Flatbreads
Soft, airy, with a crispy golden crust! Tandoor bread baked as flatbreads is incredibly tasty and simple to prepare. Best enjoyed hot, straight from the tandoor.

Preparation
Step 1
First, prepare the dough. Measure all ingredients as per the recipe. You may need slightly more or less flour. Water can be replaced with milk if desired.
Step 2
Sift the flour to aerate it and pour into a deep bowl or other container.
Step 3
Make a well in the center, add yeast and sugar, and mix lightly.
Step 4
Add salt and vegetable oil and mix again.
Step 5
Gradually pour in warm water while kneading. Adjust the amount of flour or water according to the consistency.
Step 6
The dough should be firm but not too dense. Knead for 10 minutes.
Step 7
Grease a bowl with vegetable oil, place the dough ball inside, and coat the top with oil. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes.
Step 8
Meanwhile, light the tandoor.
Step 9
While the wood burns down, the dough will usually be ready for the next step.
Step 10
Punch down the risen dough lightly with your hands. Shape into equal-sized balls, cover with a towel, and let rise for 10-15 minutes.
Step 11
Wet your fingers and make a depression in the center of each ball, forming flatbreads. Prick a few holes in the depressions with a fork.
Step 12
When the tandoor wood burns down and the walls turn white, it’s ready for baking.
Step 13
Brush the bottom of each flatbread with salted cold water. Carefully attach the flatbreads to the tandoor walls using heat-resistant gloves.
Step 14
Close the bottom vent and cover the tandoor from the top.
Step 15
Flatbreads cook very quickly in the tandoor. Time depends on heat and size of the breads. After 2 minutes, they begin to cook.
Step 16
After 5 minutes, the bread is typically ready. Average baking time is 4-10 minutes. Carefully remove the bread from the tandoor.
Step 17
Check the underside of the flatbreads - they should be golden and firm.
Step 18
Serve hot. They are soft, aromatic, and irresistible!
