Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake sweet pumpkin pieces with honey in the oven? Prepare the ingredients. This recipe tastes best with naturally sweet pumpkin varieties. But you can confidently use regular pumpkin too, because honey is used for baking - just increase the amount a little. Always use natural honey: it’s tastier and healthier. Whether to add cinnamon is up to you - I love it, so I use it.
Step 2
Wash the pumpkin very well, scrubbing the skin with a brush under warm water - because we will bake it with the skin on, this matters. Cut it in half and remove the seeds; a spoon works best. Then cut the pumpkin into serving pieces. How thick should they be? That’s also a matter of preference - we like large pieces, but you can cut the pumpkin into cubes. In both cases the recipe works; only the baking time will change.
Step 3
You don’t have to cut off the skin - it keeps the pieces from falling apart. If you cut the pumpkin into cubes, it’s better to peel it. But be sure to trim away the inner fibrous part along with any remaining seeds. Cut until you reach the firm flesh.
Step 4
Take a skillet or an oven-safe baking dish. Line it with parchment paper. To keep the parchment from sliding, crumple it in your hands first. Arrange the pumpkin, trying to keep it in a single layer so it bakes better and faster. Using a pastry brush, coat each piece with honey. For this, the honey should be runny; if your honey is thick, melt it in a double boiler.
Step 5
Sprinkle the pumpkin with ground cinnamon. You can also use other suitable spices - vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, or cardamom.
Step 6
Bake the pumpkin in an oven preheated to 190°C / 375°F for about 40 minutes. If you cut the pumpkin into cubes, you can reduce the baking time. Judge by the pumpkin’s condition - the flesh should be easily pierced with a knife. Serve the finished pumpkin warm or chilled.
