About 10 min.
Preparation
Step 1
If the fish is frozen, remove it from the freezer ahead of time and let it thaw at room temperature. Rinse the capelin and pat dry. Do not clean or gut them - the fish are small and will fall apart if cleaned. You can use sour cream and milk of any fat content; the higher the fat, the thicker the sauce.
Step 2
Peel and finely chop the onion.
Step 3
Heat a pan, pour in a little vegetable oil, and sauté the chopped onion for 1-2 minutes until translucent.
Step 4
Add the capelin to the pan and fry together with the onion over low heat for 5-7 minutes. The fish cooks very quickly.
Step 5
In a separate glass, mix milk and sour cream. Add salt and fish seasoning. Stir until smooth, ensuring no lumps of sour cream remain.
Step 6
Pour the sour cream sauce over the fish, bring to a boil, then cover and simmer over low heat for 2-3 minutes. Do not stir too often to prevent the fish from breaking apart.
Step 7
During this time, the fish will absorb the creamy flavor. Remove the pan from the heat and serve hot. It’s incredibly tasty!
Step 8
Serve with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables for a perfect meal. Enjoy!
