Easy
More than 1 hour.
Preparation
Step 1
How do you make chicken heart skewers? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Choose larger chicken hearts with as little fat as possible. The honey should be runny, not crystallized. If yours has crystallized, melt it first and cool to room temperature. You can replace tomato paste with ketchup.
Step 2
Rinse the chicken hearts thoroughly and pat dry.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, ketchup, honey, vinegar, and ground black pepper, and whisk until smooth.
Step 4
Add the chicken hearts to the marinade and let them marinate for about 1 hour at room temperature. If possible, marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
Step 5
Soak wooden skewers in water for 30-40 minutes. They will swell slightly and this will help prevent burning.
Step 6
Thread the chicken hearts onto the skewers. You can thread them lengthwise or crosswise like I did. Crosswise threading fits more hearts per skewer.
Step 7
Place the skewers across the edges of a parchment-lined baking dish or on a baking sheet. Brush the hearts with the remaining marinade. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 30 minutes, periodically brushing the hearts with the marinade from the bowl. You can also finish them under the grill/broiler setting for about 5 minutes. Adjust time and temperature to your oven.
Step 8
Transfer the cooked skewers to a platter lined with lettuce leaves and serve. You can make a quick tomato sauce: grate one tomato on a fine grater and mix with finely chopped cilantro. Enjoy your meal!
