Healthy chickpea burgers
Easy smoky chickpea and sweetcorn burgers made without meat - crispy on the outside, soft inside, and perfect for grilling or griddling in minutes.

Preparation
Step 1
Heat your barbecue until the flames have settled and the coals are glowing, or alternatively, preheat a griddle pan until very hot.
Step 2
Place the chickpeas into a bowl and mash them into a thick paste using a potato masher. Add the sweetcorn, onion powder, smoked paprika, lemon juice, and a generous amount of salt and black pepper, stirring until well combined.
Step 3
Sprinkle in the gram flour and mix thoroughly until the mixture binds together. Divide evenly into four portions and shape each one into a burger patty.
Step 4
Lightly brush each burger with oil and cook on the barbecue or griddle for 2 minutes on each side, or until crisp and heated through.
Step 5
Split the burger buns and warm them on the barbecue or griddle. Assemble by placing the burgers into the buns and topping with lettuce, red onion and tomato. Serve straight away.
