Preparation
Step 1
Use one banana per serving. Choose ripe but firm bananas - overripe ones may become too soft while frying. Even if you use just a little, pick high-quality butter without vegetable additives since it affects the caramel’s flavor. I used brown sugar, but white sugar works too. Add cinnamon if desired.
Step 2
Rinse the bananas well - their skins are often dirty, and dirt can get onto the flesh when peeling. Pat dry with a towel. Peel and slice the bananas - lengthwise, into quarters, rounds, or any shape you prefer.
Step 3
Use a heavy-bottomed, non-stick pan if possible. Place it over low heat. Add the butter and melt it while stirring constantly.
Step 4
Add the sugar and cinnamon to the melted butter. Stir and cook until the sugar dissolves. Don’t leave the pan unattended - the butter may start to burn, so stir constantly and keep the heat low.
Step 5
Once the caramel starts to bubble, add the sliced bananas. Fry them on both sides until golden brown.
Step 6
When one side is ready, gently flip the bananas to the other. They’ll be very soft, so handle carefully. Remove the cooked bananas to a plate.
Step 7
Serve fried bananas hot, warm, or cold, drizzled with the caramel from the pan. Optionally, top with chopped nuts, berries, or a scoop of ice cream for hot bananas. Fried bananas also make a great topping for porridge, puddings, and desserts. Enjoy!
