Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Choose long-grain rice - it’s best for fluffy, separate grains. Short-grain rice is usually used for porridge because it cooks softer and stickier.
Step 2
Rinse the rice several times in cold water to wash off excess starch. The water should run clear. Drain all remaining water.
Step 3
Pour water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Preferably use a pot with a non-stick coating - rice tends to stick to enamelware.
Step 4
Lightly salt the boiling water.
Step 5
Add the rinsed rice to the boiling water and stir immediately so the grains don’t clump. Cook over low heat for about 20-25 minutes.
Step 6
As it cooks, the rice will expand and absorb the water. When fully cooked, it will be soft. For aroma, you can add your favorite spices to the water during cooking.
Step 7
Drain the rice in a colander and rinse with cold water. Let excess water drip off.
Step 8
Place a piece of butter into the still-hot empty pot - it will melt instantly.
Step 9
Add the rinsed rice back into the pot and stir to coat the grains. This prevents sticking. Fluffy boiled rice is ready! Serve as a side or use in other dishes. Enjoy!
