Sift the cornmeal into a suitable bowl to remove any impurities.

Combine milk with water, add salt and sugar. Warm slightly while stirring until everything dissolves.

Make a well in the cornmeal and pour in the milk mixture. Mix first with a spoon.

Add softened butter and knead the dough by hand.

The dough should be soft, tender, and slightly moist.

Form small flatbreads from the dough. It’s easy to shape - the dough is very pliable. Don’t make them too thick so they cook through evenly.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Fry the flatbreads over medium heat until golden brown.

Flip them over and cook the other side until nicely browned.
