Preparation
Step 1
How do you make chocolate-covered bananas? Prepare the ingredients for the dish. I used dark chocolate, but any kind will work - bittersweet or milk chocolate. Use good-quality chocolate, because the flavor of the whole dish depends on it. One bar, and they are mostly 90 grams now, was enough for 2 large bananas, though a little glaze was left over. You can skip the milk or cream, but with it the chocolate becomes more fluid and easier to spread over the banana.
Step 2
Peel the bananas and cut them into pieces of about the same size. I had large bananas, so I cut each into 3 pieces. If the bananas are small, 2 pieces will be enough.
Step 3
Skewer the banana pieces on wooden sticks. These can be popsicle sticks, canapé skewers, or wooden kebab skewers. But keep in mind that banana is quite a heavy fruit, and sticks that are too thin may not hold its weight and can break.
Step 4
Chop the nuts into small pieces. I used hazelnuts, but absolutely any kind will work - walnuts, peanuts, almonds, or cashews. For a brighter flavor, you can lightly toast the nuts in a frying pan.
Step 5
Melt the chocolate. To do this, take a bowl and put the chocolate in it, broken into pieces. Pour in the milk. Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Set the bowl with the chocolate over the saucepan of boiling water. This is called a double boiler. Keep in mind that the saucepan and bowl should fit one another in size, and the water level should stay below the bottom of the bowl. In a double boiler, the chocolate will melt quickly and properly.
Step 6
Very soon, from the heat of the steam rising from the boiling water in the saucepan, the chocolate will begin to melt. Using a spatula, stir it together with the milk until smooth - this gives you a chocolate glaze. If it turns out too thick, add a little more milk. Remove the finished glaze from the heat and let it cool slightly.
Step 7
Take a banana on a stick and coat it on all sides with the chocolate glaze.
Step 8
Sprinkle the chocolate-coated banana with nuts or decorative sprinkles, if desired.
Step 9
Carefully turn the glazed banana so the stick points downward and secure it on something until it dries. I used a steaming basket. You can stick the stick into something soft. If the sticks are long, simply place the bananas in a glass. When the glaze has dried a little, transfer the bananas to a plate and put them in the refrigerator. There the chocolate will set, and the bananas will be easier to eat.
Step 10
Enjoy your meal!
