Preparation
Step 1
Pour warm water into a bowl and mix it with the salt.
Step 2
Add the olive oil and stir.
Step 3
Gradually add the flour. Note that flour is different everywhere, so you may need a little more or less. Knead a non-sticky dough.
Step 4
Put the dough into a plastic bag or wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it to “rest” in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Step 5
In the meantime, prepare the filling. Get all the necessary ingredients ready.
Step 6
First chop the nuts and toast them in a dry pan until golden.
Step 7
First chop the nuts and toast them in a dry pan until golden.
Step 8
After that, add the sugar and stir.
Step 9
Next add the cinnamon, mix, and simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes. Then turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.
Step 10
Once the mixture has cooled, add the toasted walnuts and mix. The filling is ready.
Step 11
Roll the dough out very thinly so that it becomes almost transparent. If the dough is not translucent, keep rolling. Now transfer it onto a kitchen towel and sprinkle breadcrumbs on one side. Place the filling on top of the breadcrumbs and roll everything up into a log. Preheat the oven to 200°C (about 390°F). Transfer the strudel onto a silicone baking mat. If you don’t have a silicone mat, use parchment paper greased with vegetable oil and place the strudel on it.
Step 12
Brush the roll with beaten egg and put it into the preheated 200°C (about 390°F) oven. Bake for 45 minutes. Then let the strudel cool and dust it with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
