Preparation
Step 1
How to bake an apple crumble layer cake in the oven? Prepare all the ingredients. Tart apples work best because the mixture is quite sweet. If the apples are sweet, reduce the sugar. I recommend putting the butter in the freezer for a short time - it will be easier to grate.
Step 2
Take a bowl and add sifted flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix well. Add semolina, sugar, and cinnamon.
Step 3
Whisk the dry mixture until evenly combined. This is your “dough.”
Step 4
Wash the apples under running water, pat dry, peel, and remove the stems. Cut the apples in half and remove the cores.
Step 5
Grate the apples on a coarse grater. They darken right away. Drizzle with lemon juice and mix - this slows oxidation. The filling is ready.
Step 6
Start assembling the cake. I baked it in a springform pan. Be sure to line the bottom with baking paper. Grate butter (40 g) on a coarse grater and spread it evenly over the bottom.
Step 7
Sprinkle a layer of the dry mixture over the butter - about one quarter of the total. Spread it evenly with a spoon.
Step 8
Repeat the layers: second dry layer, second apple layer, third dry layer, third apple layer.
Step 9
The fourth and final layer is dry. Grate the remaining butter over the top and spread it evenly.
Step 10
Put the cake into an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) and bake for about 1 hour. Your time and temperature may differ. When the time is up, turn off the heat but don’t take the cake out - let it cool in the oven. Serve the apple-and-semolina crumble layer cake slightly warm or cold. Enjoy!
